One of my joys is helping families navigate care. Often this can be as simple as reassuring families that everything is ok such as a bump on the head on the playground. I can simply share what to look for and they can quickly get back to their busy lives. Sometimes it’s listening, consoling, and then helping to guide a family who just received news of a new diagnosis which has now stopped their world.
I get asked a lot about why I started ParentMD. Really, it was to be a partner for parents as they raise their children and navigate their children’s healthcare.
My mind is on this topic as I recently learned of a young family informed of a concerning finding on a prenatal ultrasound. The initial diagnosis was that of a very concerning heart defect. The journey of joy and great expectations for the future now had turned upside down. One cannot understand how they feel unless one has been in those same shoes. With further follow-up they later learned there is a heart defect which will need surgical correction but a much better scenario than the former one. Now they are thankful and joyous the diagnosis has a brighter future for their child.
Perspective and relativity are fascinating elements of the human experience. One can only be truly thankful once they have experienced crisis or loss.
As we move into 2024 we are eager to serve our community and bring resources which can bring peace of mind and empowerment no matter where you are on your parenting journey. Thank you for your trust and support throughout this journey.
