What goals and aspirations do you have for your children? Universally all parents want their children to be healthy, happy, independent, strong, and secure. As we enter the new year our minds are on making 2024 better than 2023. Goals we have for our children are the same for ourselves. This concept of universality is what I want to focus on vs a “how to” discussion to meet your 2024 goals.
As humans we are all brothers and sisters with similar dreams and struggles. Sadly, some families face challenges which seem unbearable to the rest of us but no one is sheltered from tragedy. Michelle and I watched the Sounds of Freedom movie this weekend. We were reminded how blessed we are and how rampant crimes such as child sex trafficking are around the world. I cannot imagine the feeling of loss the father had when he realized his son and daughter had disappeared into the night and the city had swallowed them up. This problem seems so removed from my daily life but I know there are children and families struggling on multiple levels in our region.
I say this because we are often in conflict with “what can I do?” ... I don’t know the answer. I do know we can help people one at a time when they enter our lives just as Jesus did. The question is will we turn our back and excuse ourselves due to our busy lives or will we help those in front of us in whatever way we can. We often feel hopeless because of the state of our world but the movie reminded me we can change the world one person at a time. Ironically, when you start with one it often has a ripple impact to help more than you ever intended.
At ParentMD we want to serve and empower you to be great parents and your children to be healthy in every way. Let’s not forget to look outside our four walls and be a resource for children who need our help because universally we are all in this life together. On this note, I want to give a special thanks to those how have opened their homes to adoption, foster care, or found a way to bring hope and love to a child outside your immediate family.
Happy New Year and thank you for being a part of our community!
